Further proof that the Jesuits are the world’s most confused religious order.
Oh, so confused. That fine Jesuit university, where my father got his college degree and I – long ago – got an MS. From the website of the Hudson Valley Coalition for Life (HVCL) – click through and read the prattling of a Fordham thologian, explaining how "the disagreements between us are remarkably narrow." Leading…

Croton Point trees were clubbed by Superstorm Sandy
Last Tuesday Brigid and I did a quick early morning walk at Croton Point, from where the small RV parking area is. We were shocked by the damage out beyond the RV area, but I suppose we shouldn’t have been. The trees would have taken the full force of the wind, with no protection. Crotonites…

So, my election call missed the boat.
UPDATE: No figuring this – Romney received 2 million fewer votes than McCain did in 2008 & Obama received 10 million less. Just heard that on the radio. Yup. As Dick Cheney would say, my miss was "Big Time". Yesterday I posted here How I think the election will turn out that I thought Romney…

Fascinating short 1968 documentary on the Irish and Inwood in Manhattan
The title is "Goodbye to Glocamorra" and I''m not sure who posted it on youtube. My friend Nancy sent it to me. When I opened it and saw it was 20 minutes long, I thought "I’m just going to watch the first two or three minutes." Of course ended up watching the whole thing. Inwood…

Tim football; Stepinac JV finally lose one
Ugh, the last game of the regular season, by 23-28 against Iona Prep. It was really an excellent game with good play by both teams. Stepinac had their chances to win – had the ball on Iona's 15 yard line with three minutes to play but couldn't get it in. Tim said the locker room…

Tim football; Stepinac JV go to 7-0!
UPDATE: I showed Tim the two pictures below and he said “Oh my God look at the size of my arms!” Very pleased with himself. With a 27-6 win against Chaminade. Tim’s team just has so much speed, on offense and defense. I am of course massively biased, but Tim is playing better and better…

Stepinac varsity upsets previously unbeaten St. Joe’s
Having posted about Tim and the Stepinac JV Tim football: Stepinac JV now 6-0, here's a little bit about the varsity. They've had a tough season, but this was a good win. A short article. Last-second field goal ends St. Joseph by-the-Sea's undefeated season

Tim football: Stepinac JV now 6-0
A very tough game against Holy Trinity (Queens), played on Long Island. Final score, 27-24 and Stepinac was down midway through the third quarter, 24-10. They’d hurt themselves in the first half with three lost fumbles and a bad snap on a punt that Trinity fell on in the end zone for a touchdown. But…

More on St. Hildegard of Bingen
I posted about he new Doctor of the Church here a couple of days ago. Fr. George Rutler wrote about her, and anothe Hildegard, in his weekly parish email from the Church of Our Saviour in NY at 38th St. and Park Ave. I found it interesting and am posting it in it's entirety. FROM…

Tim football: Stepinac JV go to 5-0!
Well, Tim got moved to defensive tackle from defensive end. A big chore; he is strong as a bull but only 5'8", 187 lbs. And going against St. Anthony's of Long Island; whose varsity is ranked #2 in NY State. It's fair to say that they attract many of the best players on Long Island.…
