The Community of the Friars of the Renewal (CFR), the religious community founded by Fr. Benedict Groeschel, had six Friars profess final vows.
Fr. Groeschel, the official guru of the Faranda family. I’ve written about him on a few postings. The CFR’s are a Franciscan community. Go here for their website. Of course final vows – a big day for a Friar. I suppose, akin to getting married. Final Vows, August 1, 2010

A Cannon wedding
As Farandas complete their fourth wedding attendance of the year – a Grand Slam! All four are children of classmates of mine from Fairfield. Here’s The Cannon clan with new “member” – the groom Robert. From left to right, daughter Laura, Dennis, Denice, and bride Anne-Marie. And through the miracle of digital photography, here is…

David Tyree retires as a NY Giant. Remember his Super Bowl catch?
Nice. The catch that kept the Giants alive in the 2007 season Super Bowl, as they scored the winning touchdown four plays later. If you don't remember, have a look here – Ohh yeah, Giants rule … at my posting of that day. And here's the brief retirement story. David Tyree, Ike Hilliard Retire as Giants

Good news from Farandaville
Joe passed his driver's test today. Aced it – no points off.* He was very pleased with himself, of course. He immediately started lobbying to drive to work. We'll see about that. * Second try.

Great article – Mariano Rivera: How he does it
The New York Times Magazine section this past weekend. AND, the online edition has a great two and a half minute video of Rivera's signature pitch – the cut fastball (the "cutter"). A great video, which even a non-baseball fan would likely find fascinating. Mariano Rivera, King of the Closers A-Rod gathered his thoughts. Rivera,…

A Daniel Berrigan quote
Jesuit Daniel Berrigan (Full disclosure: I know him a bit; was arrested with him a few times – and how’s that for name-dropping!) turned 89 back in May. When he was interviewed on his birthday, and asked about his life, he said “Well, it hasn’t been boring.” I saw him at the Pax Christi stations o the…

Father’s Day @ Farandaville
Nice day. Church, gym, reading, Grandma comes down, Yanks shut out Mets (Yay!), beautiful steaks with an Argentinian sauce (Yum!) and of course a Carvel ice cream cake. More in the ongoing series of my trying to get decent pictures with Joe and Tim – Tim’s eyes Joe’s “smile”? marginally better – now…
