John Sekelsky

A wonderful man and longtime Croton resident. John was 94. A long time ago he gave me a nice sketch he’d done of Mother Teresa. I’d forgotten he flew B-17’s in WW 2. Below the picture is his obituary and below that a link to some pictures when he was honored in 2011 by the Knights of Columbus.

John was an artist, enthusiastic accordionist, and avid photographer. He flew combat missions as a B-17 radio operator in the US Army Air Corps 487th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force from April 1943 until October 1945 during WWII. He was active in his bomb group reunions and attended veterans’ activities in Croton and Warrenton. He was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus at Holy Name of Mary Church, and he volunteered with Scouting and Salvation Army fundraising.

Here’s John in January 2011.
