My friend Joe gave me A Friar’s Tale several weeks ago and I’m working my way through it. Fr. Benedict Groeschel – we knew him and even made a video with him over 20 years ago. He really was The official Guru of the Faranda family… . He died in October, 2014 after a more than two year illness. He was a true son of St. Francis of Assisi.
The book started as a memoir, but Fr. was too ill to finish, so it contains his own reminiscences and recollections along with those of friends and family, going all the way back to his childhood. The author, John Collins, was Fr. Groeschel’s book editor from 2008 onward. And it’s great so far – with Fr’s. wonderful sense of humor shining through.
