Tim football: Stepinac wins the CHSFL Championship

It wasn't pretty, but Stepinac defeated Iona, 16-14, the two points difference coming on the first snap of the game when Iona made a mess of things and gave up a safety. Stepinac had a 16-0 lead after eight minutes, but Iona sure made it interesting. And Stepinac helped them with a continuous stream of penalties.

    FANTASTIC! You must have been on the edge of your seats…
    First win since 1955?! That’s almost 60 years. Well done Tim and team – had a celebration drink on Tim’s behalf! Have just been out to celebrate Gerry’s 71st Birthday over a long lunch – so raised a glass (or was it four…?) to you all.

    Maria in 2 weeks they are tentatively scheduled to play for the state championship -Sunday Dec. 7th. Tentative because they will be playing one of the Buffalo teams – but playing down here – and the weather situation could lead to a cancellation. This is the first time there’s been a state championship scheduled. For Tim – it will mess up the start of his track season.

    I was at the game! We were all nervous wrecks at the end. But Stepinac made a good punt and played adequate defense at the very end to preserve the win by the skin of their teeth. They’ll probably play Canisius on Dec 7 for the NY State Championship. Canisius is the #1 ranked team in the state. Stepinac is #2. It should be a good fight.

    I know Tim will handle the stress from football vs. track. I am lost in the details of the game (and will remain blissfully ignorant) but I get the overall gist which is very exciting. Good luck Tim! Will think of you on Dec 7 (Pearl Harbor Day.)

    Just one more Stepinac win needed on Dec 7 to have a perfect 13-0 season. But it’ll be a lucky 13, since Dec 7 falls on a Sunday this year – not a Friday. Thank goodness! GO CRUSADERS GO!!!!!

    I need to correct my above post where I shouted: “GO CRUSADERS GO!!!!!” Considering Stepinac’s likely opponent on Dec 7 will be Canisius High School – who also, like Stepinac, call themselves the Crusaders – I should’ve shouted,
    “GO STEPINAC GO!!!!!”
