Stepinac played a second half to behold. The Crusaders, the No. 2-ranked team in the state, atoned for their early blunders and scored the final 28 points in a decisive 35-19 victory at rival Iona Prep.

The two quarterbacks, junior Tyquell Fields and senior Brandon Coleman, meshed seamlessly after Iona Prep scored on the opening drive of the second half to take a 19-7 lead. They even operated in the same backfield for the first time.

The Crusaders have won two straight and three of six against the Gaels (3-2) after losing the previous six, many by large margins.

“They’re on another level,” Iona Prep coach Vic Quirolo said. “They’re one of the best programs around. Period.”
