Not all religious orders are fading

Here’s one that’s certainly growing. The CFR’s (Friars of the Renewal), a Capuchin Franciscan group that formed about thirty years ago, led by Fr. Benedict Groeschel.

Four CFR Sisters Make Final Vows

And here was their “General Chapter” meeting from June.

  1. Dear Tom,
In a picture posted above, it appears that Cardinal Dolan is clapping in church! The Great St. Pope John the 23rd would certainly not approve of this sort of shoddy behavior, and is probably frowning down upon it from heaven as we speak!!!!! See this link >>> http://wdtprs.com/blog/2014/07/st-john-xxiii-doesnt-like-it-when-you-clap-in-church-so-stop-it-video/

I disagree. He’s congratulating and saluting the sisters. In fact Cardinal O’Connor on occasion suggested that the congregation at least at a couple of funerals where he officiated/spoke clap to show their appreciation for the deceased to their family members. At Bishop Vaughn’s funeral in 2000, as the casket was being carried out, all 2,000 plus people at the service broke into spontaneous applause. I was there – perhaps you were also? Anyway it was totally appropriate.

  3. I was not at Bishop Vaughn’s funeral. But in regard to clapping in church these days, its gotten way out of hand in many places. There may be rare occasions when it is appropriate, but the clap happy mindset which has developed these days amongst clergy and laity alike is definitely improper behavior, and has justly been condemned by both Benedict the 16th and by St. Pope John the 23rd in that video Father Z posted. Sadly, it looks to me like Dolan is just another one of these clap happy clerics. Thank God he didn’t become pope and scandalize the faithful by contradicting the good teaching which St Pope John the 23rd gave on the subject of mindless and irreverent clapping in church!!! LONG LIVE THE GREAT ST. JOHN THE 23rd !

You’re right about inappropriate and overdone clapping – but four vowed religious taking final vows – it’s OK by me.

  5. The problem is, he’s most likely not doing it only in cases like that. Considering his pathetic record up to this point, he’s just another one in a long line of mediocre, clap happy Church of Nice clerics in my book. How sad! God help us.
