Tim update: Surgery today

As a reminder, Tim suffered a ridiculous flukey injury on the sideline of his football game  two Saturdays ago.

This afternoon, he is having his right knee lateral collateral ligament repaired by Dr. Rick Weinstein, at White Plains hospital. We first saw Dr. Weinstein last Monday, and he felt the ligament had to be reconstructed. The MRI taken that day confirmed his opinion, and we then got a second opinion at the Hospital for Special Surgery with Dr. Ashton Allen. He concurred – although his repair technique differs from what Dr. Weinstein will probably do.

Both physicians are highly credentialed and Weinstein is a NYS accredited boxing ringside physician, while Allen is the NY Knicks orthopedist.

All in all, Tim has handled this pretty well. He has a hinged brace and was on crutches – he’ll continue after the surgery with six weeks of non-weight bearing on the repaired leg. Rehab before he can do sports again will be about another two months.

Poor Tim, really unfortunate. But as he said to his brother Joe on the phone a few days ago, “I’ll come back stronger.”

On the sidleine at last Saturday’s victory over St. Francis Prep.

  9. Tim – I saw the video of one of your blocks-99% instinct, 1% ligament – you’ll be fine.
