Woman speed hiker sets new record for Appalachian Trail hike-through

Jennifer Pharr Davis, 27 year old woman, averaged 47 miles a day. Unlike 90% of through-hikers, she started in Maine and finished in Georgia.

A 27-year-old woman set a new all-time speed record on the Appalachian Trail on Sunday, covering 2,180 miles in 46 days 11 hours and 20 minutes. Jennifer Pharr Davis, from North Carolina, beat Andrew Thompson's 2005 record of 47 days 13 hours 31 minutes by more than a day. Davis, no Appalachian Trail novice, had set the women's speed record of 57 days, 8 hours, 13 minutes in 2008.

This was a supported hike, which means she had a team giving her some help – supplies, etc. If you are interested in the equipment she used – and her picture - go here –

the gear Davis used to make her long days and short nights doable.

Doesn’t that take some of the fun out of it?

Jeanne Marie, I agree. But on the other hand, I guess it is a challenge, and on this, to each his own.
