At RNC debate, Michael Steele says his favorite book is War and Peace” and then quotes the opening line: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Ooops

Haha. The opening line from A Tale of Two Cities.

After which Mr. Steele said, “War and Peace.” He then dashed off the opening line from, well, a different book: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”

I saw this on Jon Stewart, and as soon as Steele said it in the video, the audience screamed in laughter. I didn’t get it until Stewart explained that it was a famous quote from a different famous work of literature! It was comforting to know that some of the now generation are more literate than some of us older people who consider ourselves quite literate.

  2. Well, I bet the audience was clued in ahead of time. I actually did
immediately pick up on it, as did Judy who was in the office at the time I came
    across it.
    She said uh -oh.
