Tom:
Glad to hear you’re home and feeling better (the latter is a presumption based on your ceaseless activity).
Since I ran into Brigid last week, I’ve been nursing first a long cold, and then a particularly nasty case of strep. While these are mere annoyances to a man with your pedigree, they seemed poor gifts to bring to your home. Hope to see you soon.

No problem – I will still be around when the cold and strep are just bad memories.
We haven’t discussed Life, Death and “The Meaning of it All” in a while. What gives?

Tom:
As you know, there are no topics dearer to me than “Life, Death, and the Meaning of it All,” and therefore I must begin by saying that you have them out of order; Death should always come at the end of any list (and only after many, many more discussions of the Meaning of it All).
I read with interest your recent comments in the gazette, and while remaining firmly seated on the opposite side of the aisle, must give you points for a sort of consistency (i.e., right to life, but no right to death). That the love of life, in all its inscrutable beauty and horror, remains the only light in the great, swirling darkness, is inarguable; that we are capable of dictating to our fellow beings when that spark should be fanned, and when it should be extinguished, seems less certain.
Now, to practical matters. If you can wait until Monday, or Tuesday at the latest, I can assist Tim in assembling your weight bench. As for the snow, I’ll come by at the end of the day–or at then end of the storm, whichever comes first–and lend a hand in its removal.
Finally, enough of gravitas; what are you reading that makes you laugh?
Cory
