Poor Harriet Miers

Is this lady being clobbered, or what? And by her own side! It seems a certain type of ideological conservative would rather get in a titanic political battle over ideas and agendas – even if it means losing – then simply picking up another chip on the table.

The New York Times had an interesting op ed today by Michael Scully, a former Presidential speechwriter, in which he skewers certain conservative critics of Miers. The article is here:The Harriet Miers I Know – New York Times   The link should be free for the next seven days, although the Times may ask you to register. It costs nothing to register.

I’d like to see an non-judge practicing attorney named to the Supreme Court – it would give Court members another perspective. Here’s hoping Miers comes up aces in her Senate Judicial Committee hearings, making Buchanan, Coulter, Kristol, etc, look as petty as they are.

  1. yeah, i am not sure about harriet miers – what is the scoop with the conservative band of naysayers? i say give the person a hearing before tearing her down.

  2. I think the issue with her is not that she hasn’t been a judge or that she is an unorthodox choice, but the rather common knowledge that she is not an expert in constitutional law. KipEsquire, the guy you were discussing the Duggar family with on my site, has asserted this and, to be fair, was absolutely supportive of confirming John Roberts. I think this was a mistake- the last thing W needed was to promulgate something that would divide his (weakening) base.
