Terribly sad. The reporter who speaks at the end and mentions her four children in Catholic school; heartfelt.

Since we are apparently infested with and unable to control the rotting evil brains of demonic creatures like Westman (who The NY Times seems fit to respectfully address as Ms.Westman ) and Lanza and others ,maybe we should adopt the Korean model. Maybe this will stop the mass murdering of our babies attending school and church.
Guns are strictly controlled in South Korea, where private gun ownership is virtually non-existent due to stringent licensing and background checks. Legally permitted gun owners are limited to professional categories like law enforcement, authorized manufacturers, and licensed hunters or sport shooters. Even licensed owners cannot keep their firearms at home, and must store them at local police stations and obtain permits for specific, limited use during designated seasons.
Key Aspects of South Korea’s Gun Control:
Permits and Background Checks:
To legally own a firearm, individuals must undergo extensive background checks and receive a permit, which includes a thorough physical and psychiatric assessment.
Storage Requirements:
Even those with permits cannot store guns at home; all firearms must be kept in a designated safe location, typically at a local police station.
Limited Ownership:
Private citizens generally cannot own handguns or fully automatic weapons. Ownership is restricted to professional roles, specific sports shooting, and hunting.
Enforcement:
The National Police Agency (KNPA) conducts regular renewals of gun permits and enforces strict regulations.
Rare Gun Violence:
Due to these strict controls, gun violence is extremely rare in South Korea.
Prohibition of Fakes:
Even the ownership of fake guns is illegal, presenting challenges for film and media productions.
Certainly an ideal. And would never get anywhere in the USA. To start with, you’d have to repeal the 2nd amendment.
No just make it difficult to get and keep firearms . At least as difficult as getting a drivers license!!
By the way, Minnesota,a very blue state has minimal gun restrictions .
My state of Connecticut has significant restrictions after theSandy Hook massacre and the 2nd amendment is still intact . You have to actually take a course in firearms and be certified and then apply for a license. New York ,the heart of liberal ideology has significantly less restrictions.
