Friday cocktail – the Brown Derby

Scroll back if you want the history of the cocktail. There are mixed opinions on how much bourbon to use – 2 oz. as shown here, or 1.5 oz. See the Farandaville recipe and opinion below the video.

Farandaville Recipe

We've had it with 2 oz and 1.5 oz of bourbon and prefer the 2 oz – otherwise the honey is to much.

So –

2 oz. Jim Beam bourbon

1 oz. grapefruit juice – Tropicana 100% grapefruit juice

.5 oz. honey syrup – we got "DaVinci Gourmet" through amazon. Don't use pure honey – it doesn't mix well. You can make your own honey syrup with a 1:1 ratio of honey and water.

Put it all in a shaker and give 20-25 seconds of shake.

It is an interesting and balanced cocktail.

  1. Wonder how this would work with pink grapefruit juice.

We used ruby red – is that different from pink?
