To quote the late Archbishop Fulton Sheen from a talk he gave titled “The Approach of Midnight<\/a>” (from minute 9:30 on, for one minute), it was the worse thing done in US history because “It wiped out all the boundaries”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s something (an excerpt) that I sent around to my own Church’s Pastoral Council. I am not attaching the flyer mentioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondly, and this is of at least interest to the PC since it comes under the mantle of the consistent ethic of life – as you may know, this coming Thursday is the 75th anniversary of the  nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. Without wanting to get into a back and forth with the PC as a group, this was a gross violation on Catholic teaching (anyone who would like to discuss this with me, please don’t copy the group – just email me separately). In the same way that we should be abolitionists when it comes to abortion and the death penalty, we should be abolitionists when it comes to weapons of mass destruction targeting non combatants. For those of you who may remember or have heard of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, he called the nuclear bombings the worst individual events in American history because “it wiped out all the boundaries.”

Unlike the 50th anniversary when there was public demonstration in NYC, because of the COVID there will be only (to my knowledge) online conferences. I plan on “attending” them both. Thanks to Ellen Brickwedde for getting this information.
