So – heading into Lent I have three books on the go – one for quite a long time. Want to finish all three by mid-Lent and then re-evaluate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first is Waking Up White, and Finding Myself in the Story of Race<\/a>. which was lent me by my friend Maria. Written by a woman brought up in wealthy, exclusive, very white circumstances in Massachusetts, and her “waking up” to the real world of institutional racism. Her struggle with it and trying to make a difference. On 558 amazon reviews it scores 4.4 (out of five).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I have a kindle book by Harvard Department Chairman and physicist Abraham “Avi” Loeb, titled From the First Star to Milkomeda.<\/a> <\/span>It is half autobiographical and half about he and his PhD students taking on cutting edge issues of astronomy. Pretty good (the science is heavy) and I’m halfway through it. All 8 amazon reviews are 5 star. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last book is a short one titled Praying Scripture for a Change<\/a> by Tim Gray, a noted spiritual writer and Seminary teacher (he is not a priest). It looks at the ancient form of scriptural meditation called  Lectio Divina<\/a>.  I’m almost finished it – quite superb. Other people think so too – it’s got a 4.8 (out of five) rating from the 88 Amazon reviews. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
