A partial left knee replacement &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/osteoarthritis\/medial-compartmental-osteoarthritis\">medial compartment<\/a> (the inner aspect of the knee). It&#8217;s been pending for a long time &#8211; had meniscus surgery in 2004 and been taking the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hyaluronic_acid#Medical_uses\">hyaluronic acid shots<\/a> for the last two and a half years. And it helped greatly &#8211; for awhile. But now time for surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"137\" src=\"https:\/\/tomfarandasfolly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/6a00d834525a2f69e20240a49e7850200d-200wi.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13001\" title=\"Unicompartmental knee replacement\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the bone on bone osteoarthritis had nothing to do with 20 years of playing rugby; everything to do with being bowlegged! Hahaha!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s being done at White Plains Hospital (same place <a href=\"https:\/\/tomfaranda.typepad.com\/folly\/2011\/10\/tim-update-surgery-today.html\">Tim had his knee surgery eight years ago<\/a>), and they are keeping me overnight, even though I probably could go home the same day. Big concern is infection. Rare but you never know &#8230; White Plains Hospital has a very low infection rate. The orthopedic surgeon is Michael Gott and he told me that compared to a total knee replacement &#8220;The pain is the same but the rehab is faster.&#8221;&nbsp; We&#8217;ll see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATE: Surgery scheduled for 11:30AM tomorrow Yup.
