He was the youngest of three children born to Karol Wojty\u0142a (1879\u20131941), an ethnic Pole, and Emilia Kaczorowska (1884\u20131929), whose mother&#8217;s maiden surname was Scholz. Emilia, who was a schoolteacher, died in childbirth in 1929 when Wojty\u0142a was eight years old. His elder sister Olga had died before his birth, but he was close to his brother Edmund, nicknamed Mundek, who was 13 years his senior. Edmund&#8217;s work as a physician eventually led to his death from scarlet fever, a loss that affected Wojty\u0142a deeply.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>His Feast Day!
