The 1-year-old had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, Philadelphia\u2019s Fox 29 News reported at the time. Doctors had not expected that she would make it to her first birthday, but she overcame the odds \u2014 and days after her birthday, Pope Francis kissed her head.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm\"><a href=\"https:\/\/philadelphia.cbslocal.com\/2016\/01\/25\/baby-kissed-by-pope-continues-to-make-progress\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CBS Philadelphia reported that Gianna has histiocytosis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a rare condition that made it impossible for her to have surgery to remove the tumor. The blood disorder caused lesions on her brain stem, the outlet explained.
