I don’t agree with #1 but can understand why some people would have that impression. All five states are bordered by water – either an ocean or a gulf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clipped speech, impatience, and low enthusiasm for small talk can feel much harsher than the speaker intends. Read this ranking as a map of reputation and social tone, not as proof that kindness disappears from one state to the next.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida rounded out Clever\u2019s top five, yet the same 2024 study also ranked it fifth for nicest residents and first for desirability<\/a>. That split captures the state well. It sells sun, escape, and easy living, but some of its busiest places project a much rougher social mood once people are actually there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City data helps explain why. Preply\u2019s 2024 survey put Miami first and Tampa third among the rudest cities in America<\/a>, while YouGov\u2019s state polling found that Florida was the one Southern state where residents were more likely to call their own state rude than polite<\/a>. In high heat, heavy traffic, crowded restaurants, and tourist-packed entertainment zones, behaviors like loudness, impatience, and low situational awareness become much harder to ignore. Plenty of travelers still love Florida, but it is also one of the clearest examples of a place where vacation marketing and on-the-ground social tone do not always line up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
