Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump said he has \u201cno disagreement with the fact the pope can say what he wants, and I want him to say what he wants, but I can disagree.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI want him to preach the Gospel. I\u2019m all about the Gospel,\u201d Trump said of Pope Leo at another point. \u201cBut I also know you cannot let a certain country, which is a very mean-spirited country, have a nuclear weapon. If they did, they would use it, and I think they\u2019d use it quickly, and they would kill many millions of people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump argued that the Holy Father \u201chas to understand\u201d that if Iran did have a nuclear weapon, \u201cevery country \u2014 including Italy, where he\u2019s stationed \u2014 every single country in the world would be in trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n When asked if he would meet with Pope Leo in person to work out their differences, Trump said, \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The remarks follow multiple<\/u><\/a> public condemnations Trump has directed at the Holy Father in recent days. In a scathing April 12 post on Truth Social, Trump called Pope Leo \u201cweak on crime\u201d and \u201cterrible for foreign policy.\u201d He also said the Pontiff should \u201cget his act together as Pope\u201d and claimed credit for his election, as Zeale News previously reported<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a separate April 14 post, Trump wrote<\/u><\/a>, \u201cWill someone please tell Pope Leo that Iran has killed at least 42,000 innocent, completely unarmed, protesters in the last two months, and that for Iran to have a Nuclear Bomb is absolutely unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
