I am not a subscriber to Slate so what I&#8217;ve excerpted is all I can copy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/life\/2026\/08\/students-college-yale-catholic-church-gen-z-religious.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/life\/2026\/08\/students-college-yale-catholic-church-gen-z-religious.html\">Universities need to do more to connect with an increasingly religious student body.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around the United States, as you\u2019ve probably heard, Gen&nbsp;Z Catholics are heading to the pews in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/03\/26\/us\/catholics-converts.html?searchResultPosition=1\">eye-popping numbers<\/a>. They meet up in pizzerias and follow one another on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/style\/trends\/2026\/04\/02\/catholicism-gen-z\/\">social media<\/a>. They flock to Catholic student organizations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/pittsburgh-area-catholic-church-resurgence-gen-z\/\">which are booming<\/a>. And at Yale University, where I teach Latin American and global history, they attend classes and public lectures to learn about their faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trend has surprised many in my department. Last spring, the most popular history course at Yale was The Catholic Intellectual Tradition, a survey of Catholic thinking and writing from the first century to the present. It beat out such popular, evergreen classes as The Birth of Europe and The Roman Empire.
