Nearly 400 police officers have also reportedly suffered injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">***************************<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A main complaint among demonstrators is the shortage of teachers and support staff in the country\u2019s schools.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The education ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.education.gouv.fr\/depp\/la-part-du-temps-d-enseignement-non-assure-dans-les-etablissements-publics-du-second-degre-en-2024-504512\">found<\/a> that during the 2024-2025 school year, nearly 10% of teaching hours went untaught in public secondary schools. About 7.5% of those lost hours were due to a failure to find substitutes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">**************************<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Complaints about insufficient resources and funding and poor infrastructure in schools have also been raised in the student protests.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We are 35 per \u200cclass, \u2060we don\u2019t have enough chairs in classrooms,\u201d a 15-year-old student told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/about-400-french-schools-closed-some-student-protests-turn-violent-2026-10-02\/\">Reuters<\/a> in the Paris suburb of Pantin as demonstrators clashed with police deploying tear gas in an effort to quell the protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are 35 of us per classroom. With 35 degrees Celsius [95 degrees Fahrenheit] in summer, it\u2019s unbearable. There aren\u2019t enough toilets, and there are water leaks in some rooms,\u201d a 17-year-old said while speaking to AFP at a protest in Strasbourg in the northeast of France. \u201cThe building is falling apart, the cafeteria is too small.
