The Archdiocese of New York and plaintiffs\u2019 lawyers reached an agreement on a proposed settlement in which the church would pay more than $800 million to settle claims from 1,300 people who said they had been sexually abused by its clergy members and lay leaders.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n The plaintiffs\u2019 lawyers said late Friday that they had finalized the settlement with the archdiocese and that all of the plaintiffs had signed off on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In an email to the priests of the archdiocese shared with The New York Times, Archbishop Ronald A. Hicks confirmed on Saturday that an agreement had been reached to settle the claims.
