Actually more than annoying – a bit hobbling. I'd had arthroscopic surgery on that knee over 11 years ago – took out much of the torn meniscus. Not an old rugby injury – the meniscus wore out because I'm bowlegged!<\/p>\n
Early last week I suddenly developed a pretty noticeable pain in my left calf. Had the good sense on Wednesday to go to the Phelps ER – I was concerned I might have a blood clot.<\/p>\n
Turned out to be something I'd never heard of – a baker's cyst<\/a> inside my knee. Evidently it burst and the acidic fluid leaked down into the calf. I've since found out that it can be quite debilitating if it bursts. But I'm gradually feeling a bit better – only a little limp – but due to the nagging of Brigid and Judy<\/span> several people I went to see the orthopod who operated on Tim's knee four years ago, Dr. Rick Weinstein<\/a>. The diagnosis: I have mostly got bone on bone rubbing on the inner aspect of the knee – classic arthritis. My knee has been achy for years so really no surprise. He gave me a shot of cortisone and I may start getting gel shots – lubricating the knee – generally helpful for about six months.
