Of course we all knew that. Way back in my Fairfield U days, I still remember the Jesuit head of the philosophy department saying in a homily that we can know the devil exists because it’s not conceivable that all the evil in the world can just be coming from men. Made sense to me.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, this will elicit peels of laughter from some …<\/p>\n

Pope Francis stated emphatically that the Devil\u2019s existence is a reality, in his homily at a daily Mass on October 11. <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe should not be na\u00efve,\u201d the Pope continued. The devil is a reality,
\nand refusing to recognize the struggle between Jesus and the devil is a
\nway of only \u201chalfway\u201d accepting the salvific role of Jesus Christ. The
\nLord came to end \u201cthe enslavement the devil has over us,\u201d the Pope said.
\nHe reminded his congregation of Christ\u2019s words from the day\u2019s Gospel:
\n\u201cEither you are with me or you are against me.\u201d <\/p>\n
