One of those, in <a href=\"http:\/\/topics.bloomberg.com\/new-jersey\/\">New Jersey<\/a>,<br \/>\nis sponsored by Burzichelli\u2019s brother-in-law, state assemblyman John<br \/>\nBurzichelli. Often referred to as physician-assisted suicide or<br \/>\ndoctor-aided dying, the movement has come a long way from the 1990s when<br \/>\nJack Kevorkian, a Michigan pathologist, was in the spotlight for<br \/>\nhooking patients up to a homemade device that helped them administer<br \/>\nlethal drugs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">******<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">While Caplan (note from Faranda &#8211; he used to write an ethics column for the NY Times; now pro-euthanasia) has changed his views, opposition from doctors,<br \/>\nreligious organizations, anti-abortion groups and disability advocates<br \/>\nhasn\u2019t been swayed. They are waging their own campaigns at the state<br \/>\nlevel against legalizing any form of aided dying. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The Washington, D.C.-based anti-abortion advocacy group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrlc.org\/\" rel=\"external\" title=\"Open Web Site\">National Right to Life<\/a><br \/>\ntakes the position that all life has value and the priority should also<br \/>\nbe trying to improve the quality of life for patients with terminal<br \/>\nillness, said Jennifer Popik, legislative counsel for the organization.<br \/>\nThe group helps its state affiliates lobby against the measures. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cYou<br \/>\ndon\u2019t fix the problem by killing the patients,\u201d Popik said. \u201cWe want<br \/>\nthe focus to be on saving as many lives as possible and having people\u2019s<br \/>\nquality of life be as high as it can be.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cnn just did a special on a military veteran who wants to end his own life, the NY Times had an extesive article on the rising cost of paying for aged people with dementia, suicide and euthanasia are continuing to gain respectability as a &quot;choice&quot;.
