Wade \u2014 and The New York Times pronounced the issue settled. <\/a><\/p>\n\u201cThe court\u2019s verdict on abortions,\u201d said the Times, \u201cprovides a sound
\nfoundation for final and reasonable resolution of a debate that has
\ndivided America too long. As with the division over Vietnam, the country
\nwill be healthier with that division ended.\u201d<\/p>\n
Four decades on, we
\nare hard-pressed to find any sign this division is ended. To the
\ncontrary, by substituting the preferences of unelected judges for the
\npeople acting through their elected representatives, Roe has only made
\nthe issue more divisive. <\/p>\n
