{"id":2872,"date":"2012-08-04T05:58:00","date_gmt":"2012-08-04T05:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tomfarandasfolly.com\/?p=2872"},"modified":"2025-09-28T02:34:03","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T02:34:03","slug":"brigid-and-i-have-met-cullen-jones-who-won-a-silver-medal-yesterday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tomfarandasfolly.com\/?p=2872","title":{"rendered":"Brigid and I have met Cullen Jones, who won a silver medal Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cullen_Jones\" target=\"_self\">Cullen Jones<\/a> won a gold medal in the famous 4&#215;100 freestyle relay in Bejing in 2008, where the USA just beat France after an epic swim by the American anchor swimmer, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jason_Lezak\" target=\"_self\">Jason Lezak<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now in this Olympics he&#8217;s won a silver in the same 4&#215;100 relay and then Friday got a silver in the 50 m individual freestyle race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jones is a graduate of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Benedict%27s_Preparatory_School\" target=\"_self\">St. Benedict&#8217;s Prep<\/a>, an all-boys school in Newark, NJ, run by the Benedictine order. We have frequently been guests of my friend Bill Connolly at an annual dinner fund-raiser at St. Benedict&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Cullen got his 2008 gold medal, he spoke at the 2009 dinner. Brigid and I chatted with him briefly, and he is a super-nice guy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ve been closely following his races in the London Olympics and are thrilled about his two medals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is his picture with Fr.
