{"id":3082,"date":"2011-08-14T10:58:44","date_gmt":"2011-08-14T10:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tomfarandasfolly.com\/?p=3082"},"modified":"2025-09-28T23:03:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T23:03:17","slug":"terrible-end-to-a-kayaking-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tomfarandasfolly.com\/?p=3082","title":{"rendered":"Terrible end to a kayaking trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#39;m posting this because I&#39;d heard Friday evening that a small boy had been plucked out of the Long Island sound, and there was initially no understanding of how he got there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/ny_local\/2011\/08\/14\/2011-08-14_son_shirt_honors_dad.html\" target=\"_self\">&quot;I saw somebody in the water, which is unusual that far out,&quot; Sandomenico told Newsday. &quot;So I turned around, and it turns out to be a 5-year-old boy.&quot;<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">After his rescue, the child told the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/topics\/U.S.+Coast+Guard\" title=\"U.S. Coast Guard\">Coast Guard<\/a> that he watched his dad &quot;go down&quot; into the 14-foot deep water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The little boy couldn&#39;t provide any details on what went wrong as the pair headed out on their day trip along Long Island&#39;s north shore.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The kayak was later recovered about 500 yards from where the boy was discovered.<\/p>\n<p>Ugh.
