Too bad. There’s no sports anouncer I enjoyed listening to more then Madden. in a class by himself. And of course he is a Super bowl winning coach – with the Raiders in 1976. According to Wikipedia he won 76% of his games as a coach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coincidentally, I received in the mail today (bought second hand through amazon) an old book he’d written way back in 1984, entitled Hey Wait a Minute (I Wrote a Book!)<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m sure he’ll keep making commercials (Ace Hardware, Outback Steakhouse) and keep his Madden NFL<\/strong><\/em> video game going. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

UPDATE:<\/strong><\/span> Nice article in the Washington Times. There’s an interesting quote from the article: “NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol said Thursday that Madden was the only analyst he knew who influenced television ratings for games.”  <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watching football just won’t be as fun this fall. John Madden, the emphatic NFL analyst who served as the football instructor to couch potatoes for 30 years, announced Thursday he is retiring from broadcasting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No more Madden Cruiser. No more “Boom!” No more turducken. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For football fans between the ages of 25 and 45, Madden was the instructor every Sunday afternoon.
