Many people in England <strike>are crazy<\/strike> are really militant atheists so perhaps she upset this person, and maybe&#0160;the nurse&#39;s&#0160;judgement wasn&#39;t so good. Can&#39;t tell from the story.<\/p>\n<p>Now here&#39;s my &quot;Nurse tells me she&#39;ll&#0160;pray for me story.&quot; When I was in Sloan Kettering in&#0160;January &#39;06 and prepping for my autologous stem cell transplant,&#0160;a nurse practitioner&#0160;went over the procedure, which was scheduled for the next day (It&#39;s quite a simple procedure really &#8211; just like getting a transfusion). As she was leaving she said &quot;I&#39;m not working tomorrow but I will pray for you.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>I found that very touching, and in fact told the story when I was giving the commencement address at a graduation last June.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/health\/healthnews\/4409168\/Nurse-suspended-for-offering-to-pray-for-patients-recovery.html\"><font color=\"#800080\"><strong>Nurse suspended for offering to pray for patient&#39;s recovery &#8211; Telegraph<\/strong><\/font><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p>Mrs Petrie, a married mother of two, says she has been left shocked and upset by the action taken against her. <\/p>\n<p>She insists she has never forced her own religious beliefs on anyone but politely inquired if the elderly patient wanted her to pray for her \u2013 either in the woman&#39;s presence or after the nurse had left the patient&#39;s home. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;I simply couldn&#39;t believe that I have been suspended over this. I knew I hadn&#39;t done anything wrong. All I am trying to do is help my patients, many of whom want me to pray for them,&quot; she said. <\/p>\n<p>Mrs Petrie, 45, is a community nurse employed by North Somerset Primary Care Trust to carry out home visits to sick and elderly patients. <\/p>\n<p>The incident which led to her suspension took place at the home of a woman patient in Winscombe, North Somerset. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;It was around lunchtime and I had spent about 20 to 25 minutes with her. I had applied dressings to her legs and shortly before I left I said to her: &#39;Would you like me to pray for you?&#39;. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;She said &#39;No, thank you.&#39; And I said: &#39;OK.&#39; I only offered to pray for her because I was concerned about her welfare and wanted her to get better.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>However, after the incident on December 15, she was contacted by the trust and asked to explain her actions. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I saw this story about a month ago, and forgot to post it.
