Sunday Joe had a track meet starting a bit after noontime and Tim had an evening basketball game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe’s meet was at the Armory, off Broadway and 168th St. in upper Manhattan. The Armory is about ten blocks south of the George Washington Bridge. And despite it’s name, and the image it might bring to mind, it’s a beautiful facility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, after Madison Square Garden, it may be the best indoor track in New York. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, Joe ran a 55 meter dash and then was anchor in the 4 x 200 meter relay. Joe is a sophomore, and freshman and sophomores actually have weight classes in track. Joe is in the under 105 lb. class – the lightest – called sub midget! He must have not eaten and taken a laxative or something the day of the weigh-in at the beginning of the indoor season, because I don’t think he’s that<\/span> light. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe came third in the 55 – he was just edged out of second – in a full (eight man) field. His relay team came second out of four – 3 seconds behind the first place team and well ahead of the other two. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I said, the Armory is a fine facility<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After getting back from the meet with Joe, I had a few hours off, and then went with Tim to his basketball game ( a home game at St. Augustine’s, five minutes away). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a defensive battle all the way, with St. Augustine’s trailing 11-15 going into the last two minutes. Then Tim sank two consecutive shots – the last one with 18 seconds left – to put the game into overtime. alas, St. Augustine’s fell short in OT, 16-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s very difficult to get a decent picture in the St. Augustine’s gym because of the lighting, so this is the only one. The boys had to wear the green singlets over their uniforms because both teams were wearing blue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
