That’s the Hudson River. She is sailing on the replica of the Half Moon<\/strong>, the ship Henry Hudson sailed when he discovered the Hudson River. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 400th anniversary of the discovery is next year, and aficionado’s of the history have been prepping this past year for the anniversary. Brigid got interested because the Half Moon<\/strong> was a Dutch ship, but Henry Hudson was English. She is toying with the idea of writing a book from the perspective of Henry Hudson’s son, as if it was a log of the voyage and discovery of the river (no such log by his son exists). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So Brigid has been reading about the voyage, as well as studying the boat. Sunday night she went up to Newburgh to serve as a crewperson for the last sailing of the season, as they move the Half Moon<\/strong> from Newburgh to Albany for the winter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She’s called us three times, and is having a great time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s the Half Moon<\/strong>, docked in Yonkers on October 18th. Brigid spent that day guiding people around the boat and then overnighted on it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And here are a couple of pictures from September, as the Half Moon<\/strong> sailed up past the Bear Mountain Bridge – we took these from the east shore above the river. Not a big ship at all. Hard to believe they sailed across the Atlantic in ships of that size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So Brigid is away three nights, while I hold the fort. Not too tough, since the boys are bigger now then when she went to England years ago (on a couple of occasions) leaving me to cope with them for seven or eight days.
