Built at the end of the 19th century, it is the second largest hand hewn masonry structure in the world. Go here for the history and to see what the dam usually looks like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Croton_Dam\">New Croton Dam &#8211; Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rain Sunday and Monday resulted in a spectacular show of nature for anyone who thought to check out the dam, and the usually slow moving Croton river. They&#8217;d scootered over when I left a voice mail at Kathleen&#8217;s house that the dam was worth a visit. The water was really thundering.
