The election is March 20th. And there&#8217;s actually an important issue. Has to do with the local environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lohud.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20070203\/NEWS02\/702030337\/1018\/NEWS02\">Croton Republicans running against transfer station<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>CROTON-ON-HUDSON &#8211; The Republican Party is running on a platform to close a controversial rail-transfer station and has selected a vocal critic of the operation as a candidate for office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Susan Konig, 44, was nominated to run with Mayor Greg Schmidt, who is seeking a second term, and Thomas Brennan for three open seats on the village Board of Trustees. &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230; Konig, who has written for a number of publications including The Washington Post and New York Post, said concern over the future of the rail-transfer facility prompted her to run. The site north of the Croton-Harmon train station has been loading and unloading construction material since Buffalo Southern Railroad began limited operations there last year. The previous operator, Metro Enviro, closed in 2005 after a long legal battle over operating violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Konig said the Democrats have not been forceful enough in seeking to close the operation, and she favors the hard-line Republican approach involving litigation, not negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I just felt I had to step up and work for the best interests of the people of Croton. They don&#8217;t want another (rail-transfer) company in Croton.
