An uneventful day (uneventful is good). The staff came in, said things were going well, and I got another platelets transfusion.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My mouth and throat seem better. Perhaps because of the lidocaine mouth rinse and the morphine pump. The nurses can see how many times I\u2019ve given myself a dose, and said that I\u2019m using it sparingly. But I\u2019ve used it whenever I\u2019ve had to. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time in five days I had something to eat besides clear liquids and a little jello or ice cream. I had some vegetable soup at lunch and dinner. Thought I should see how it feels and it wasn\u2019t too bad. I had some mouth and throat pain, which quickly dissipated.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also had a visit from my good friend Bill Connolly (not the Scottish comedian; the New Jersey businessman). Bill and I played rugby together in the 70\u2019s for the Essex Rugby Club (North Jersey RC traces it\u2019s history back to Essex), at the time one of the top clubs in the Northeast United States. When Bill went into coaching, he was hugely successful, especially at the All-Star level (in rugby they don\u2019t call it All-Star, they call it \u201cselect side\u201d, but that\u2019s what it means.)  <\/span>For a time Bill was on the coaching staff of the U.S. Eagles, the national rugby team.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what did we do while Bill was here? Watched bits and pieces of a 2001 Ireland v. England rugby international match, of course. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s Bill \u2013 you wont be able to tell because of the quality of the online picture, but he\u2019s got a huge grin under that mask.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
