{"id":69,"date":"2025-08-19T04:29:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T04:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tomfarandasfolly.com\/?p=69"},"modified":"2025-09-27T18:01:38","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T18:01:38","slug":"super-agers-who-remember-everything-at-80-four-things-in-common","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tomfarandasfolly.com\/?p=69","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Super-agers&#8221; who remember everything at 80 &#8211; four things in common"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/super-agers-at-80\/\">Northwestern Medicine scientists define \u201csuper-agers\u201d as adults older than 80, \u201cwho have the memory capacity of individuals who are at least three decades younger.\u201d Super-agers are \u201chighly social\u201d and have brains that \u201cresist the buildup of Alzheimer\u2019s-related plaques and tangles.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>super-agers share these four traits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Exceptional memory performance<\/strong>: Delayed word recall test results were on par with 50 to 60-year-olds.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Youthful brain structure<\/strong>: There was \u201cno significant thinning\u201d of the outer layer of their brain. \u201cThis crucial region of the brain plays a significant role in integrating information related to decision-making, emotion and motivation,\u201d explained researchers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unique cellular traits<\/strong>: Increased amount of von economo neurons (associated with social behaviors) and larger entorhinal neurons (linked to memory), versus \u201ctypical\u201d aging peers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sociability as a common trait<\/strong>: SuperAgers are \u201chighly social\u201d and maintain \u201cstrong interpersonal relationships.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The findings are set to be published in <em>Alzheimer\u2019s &amp; Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer\u2019s Association<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>However, scientists have yet to pinpoint <em>how<\/em> a person becomes a Super-Ager. Does it have to do with diet or lifestyle habits? Can it be chalked up to genetics? Do certain medications or environmental factors lower your risk of becoming a Super-Ager?
