Marcus has found himself asking why he has it so good in what should be a cold, meaningless world that doesn&#39;t care whether he suffers or not. <\/a><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/tomfaranda.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d834525a2f69e202942f968692200c-pi\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Atheist wondering\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d834525a2f69e202942f968692200c img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/tomfaranda.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d834525a2f69e202942f968692200c-400wi\" style=\"width: 380px;\" title=\"Atheist wondering\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cHow could there be no God if so many good things keep happening?\u201d asked Marcus Blaine. \u201cOh, Science forgive me as I wrestle and doubt. Forgive me for seeing beauty and wonder in a world as if it were designed by a Creator!\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Sources say that Marcus often says that he\u2019s just a random collection of atoms and chemical reactions\u2014that he\u2019s just \u2018dancing to his DNA\u2019\u2014but recently he just can\u2019t seem to shake the idea that there\u2019s more to his existence.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cWhat if it\u2019s all a lie? What if atheism is just made up to make people feel smart and have a false sense of superiority?\u201d Marcus cried out. \u201cI mean obviously we\u2019re just here by random chance, with no benevolent Being watching over us. But then again, why has a single good thing happened in anyone\u2019s life\u2014much less on a daily basis?\u201d&#0160;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Many of Marcus\u2019s friends have started to worry about him. They claim that he\u2019s not wearing his fedora anymore and he\u2019s started to say things like \u2018there\u2019s just way too much good in this world.\u2019&#0160;Several have said that it\u2019s hard to watch such a strong nonbeliever backslide like that, and even start attending church again.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">At publishing time, Marcus had even started to acknowledge how preposterous it was to distinguish between right and wrong while still asserting there was no moral lawgiver.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PORTLAND, OR\u2014Local atheist Marcus Blaine has been wavering in his atheism recently, wondering why good things happen at all.
