More on Nick Springer – lovely article

This was sent to me by my friend Regina and is off lohud. you should be able to access the whole article through the link.

Gary Springer remembers the day his son, Nick, announced he was switching from a motorized wheelchair to one he’d have to physically power himself. Electric wheelchairs were for people who are “really disabled,” he’d said, and Nick didn’t view himself as that. Nick Springer powered his wheelchair from then on, just as he always would power himself through life. When the former Croton resident died suddenly of a suspected heart attack last week at age 35, he was in a pool, swimming.

It didn’t matter that the meningococcal meningitis he contracted at age 14 had forced the surgical removal of both his arms at mid-forearm and both his legs above his knees.

He swam, did scuba diving, snowboarded, played sled hockey and was an international figure in rugby.

In 2008, at the age of 23, he was named game MVP when the U.S. rugby team defeated Australia to win the gold medal at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, China.

Please read the whole article – it is a wonderful tribute to an amazing person.
