Churches – including my own – have opened for Mass. Here are the rules for attending.

I think this pretty much applies throughout the Archdiocese of NY. Picture here is of a concert several years ago at HNM.

.Before coming to Church check yourself and your family for fever and coughs, remain at home if you have them.
.Remember that you are dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass in Church, but you can attend the services on stream and on youtube.
.Make sure that you and your family wear face masks before entering the Church. Keep the mask on throughout Mass until you reenter your car to depart.
.When you arrive pay attention to those around you and keep the appropriate safe distance.
.The main doors of the Church will be open – so you need not touch the knobs and handles.
.An usher will provide directions and other instructions as you enter the Church.
.Some pews will be unavailable and all available pews will be marked to ensure safe physical distancing. Family members who live in the same house may sit more close together as normal. Physical distance must be kept between families and the individuals parishioners who do not live in the same house.
.Do not hug, embrace or shake hands with friends and others.
.There will be hymnals kept at the entrance of the Church, you may take a hymnal home and bring it when you come to Church. Please do not return the hymnals.
.There will be no procession at the start or the end of the Mass. The priest will enter and exit from the sacristy.
.There will be no physical exchange of the Sign of Peace.
.Communion will be distributed only under one species.
.On your way to receive the Eucharist please keep safe distance. You will remove the mask and also your gloves as you approach the Eucharist and then you may wear the masks and exit the church. When you reach your car you may continue with your prayer of thanksgiving.
.If during Mass it is necessary to use the rest-room, please follow the signs and adhere to the rules of hygiene and sanitation.
.Ushers will not distribute any paper magazines, news papers or bulletins. Your Flocknote will keep you updated.
.The Celebrant will not greet you outside as you leave the Church.
.Let there be no gathering after Mass to meet and greet.
.Leave the Church from the side exits after you receive Holy Communion.
.Thank you very much for your patience and understanding as we take these regrettable but necessary steps which will in turn allow us to resume the celebration of the Mass and other sacraments together.
.Let us continue to pray for all those who have died during this pandemic, for all our loved ones and for the days to come when these safety measures will no longer be necessary.
