I’ve posted several times about this former Sudanese slave who ultimately became a Catholic sister in Italy. Here is the first time in 2008 St. Josephine Bakhita – saint of Darfur.
And today – February 8th, the day she died in 1947 – is her feast day. Canonized in 2000, a great Saint for this century.
I love this – too bad Stephen Hawking never read this.
“Seeing the sun, the moon and the stars, I said to myself, ‘Who could be the Master of these beautiful things?’ I felt a great desire to see him, to know him and to pay him homage.”
— St. Josephine Bakhita
And this –

Here she is in stained glass – portrayed with chains.
