Jamaica – my stomping ground from 1977-’79 – getting hammered by the worst hurricane they’ve ever recorded.

This picture I took off the BBC channel – right off the television. Brigid and I know Treasure Beach very well. It is on the non-touristy south coast and it’s where we spent our so-called honeymoon (with my parents and youngest brother Phil – and Brigid’s dog Feisty…!) after our wedding in the town of Mandeville. We had met while both teaching there. The path of Hurricane Melissa put a direct hit on Treasure Beach.

This brief report is from St. Ann’s Bay on the north coast of Jamaica, west of the well known resort Ocho Rios, and of Dunn’s River Falls. Very dangerous.

This is devastating for the island. I’m thankful it missed the Cayman Islands where we lived from 1979-’81. It would have been catastrophic. Highest point in Grand Cayman is 140′.
