Most plausible case for why the 5 divers died in the Maldives

Brigid and I have been following this tragic case since we are both experienced divers, having spent two years living in the Cayman Islands – 1979-81.

The deaths were total human error. Even doing such a dive with regular air and without the very high level of training and specific equipment needed for cave diving, was incredibly risky. Since several of the divers were very experienced it’s almost inexplicable. I have all sorts of dive certifications under the BSAC (British Subaqua Club) and PADI systems and have been down to 120′ feet. But I would have laughed off any suggestion that I was qualified to do this sort of dive.

The first video is the short version – 3 minutes – of what happened; the second a longer, more detailed explanation.

And the longer explanation.
