Our most Feisty – some might say ornery – eight year old chinchilla Rylia has a tooth problem (they are growing backwards!) and nothing can be done abut it. It was discovered last Monday evening when the crowd returned from England after their six day stay. I was chin sitting but not my fault! It probably has been going on for awhile, but her weight loss was noted when they got back.
So off to the exotic animal vet who made the diagnosis. She is on two meds and has to be hand fed – otherwise she will not eat or drink. She is NOT happy with that and takes about 15-20 minutes – but we will continue until it becomes too much for her.
Rylia has two children amongst the other five we have; and a friend has twins she had. All four are adults and all doing well. Chinchillas as pets can live into their teens – Dusty is at least 12 years old. Here are pictures after last nights feeding.
