Tim javelin PR; now #1 in NY State

Nice throw yesterday (the video is below) in wet, humid conditions, not exactly good for throwing a javelin. But this is a new PR (personal record) on Tim's quest to go over 175' before finishing high school. He's unlikely to finish the season as #1 in the state – a current senior from Massapequa went 206' last year! – but should certainly finish in the top 5 – possibly as high as #3.

The throws coach from Cardinal Hayes (who is excellent) we know from his time teaching at Fordham Prep. He spoke with Tim about his footwork, which is mediocre and needs a lot of work. When he gets that down (hopefully this year) his throws could really zoom – his upper body strength is off the scale for a javelin thrower.

Tim also had a respectable shot put of 42'5". Not a PR but pretty good since he hasn't thrown since the winter season.

Here's the javelin throw. For a bigger view, hit the "youtube" box at the bottom right.

  1. He needs tap dancing lessons to improve his footwork. We have to turn him into Fred Astaire so he can become #1!
