Tim wins the CHSAA intersectional freshman javelin event

UPDATE: The record for CHSAA freshman in this event s 143'9", so Tim would have needed another 10 feet or so to break it.

Having won the NYCHSAA (That's Catholic High School Athletic Association) javelin on Wednesday, yesterday he won at the biggest meet, which includes not just Manhattan and Westchester, but also Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens. The meet was at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.

Tim had the longest throw in the preliminary round – 126' – and then on his second throw in the finals (there were four other finalists) he set another personal best with a throw of 134'. In fact, I think he had the four longest throws in the whole freshman event. He was only 12 feet short of the best in the sophomore section.

After the javelin event win earlier in the week I figured he'd do well. When we arrived at the stadium I told him just to do his best, and how pleased and happy Brigid and I were that he'd handled the adversity of his bad knee injury so well.

Anyway, here's his best throw. I was way off in the stands, so this is the best I could do. Look for a box around Tim a few seconds into the video to see the throw. He actually out-threw where the measuring person was standing.

Tim did well in the shot put, throwing the 8 lb. freshman shot 41 feet. But that was a foot short of making the final.
