My friend Noreen in the running for trip with NY Times columnist Nick Kristof

UPDATE AND CORRECTION: Noreen could go as the "senior citizen" on this trip; not just a student is going

Kristof does a worthwhile Win-a-trip-with-me-to-the-developing-world contest every year for a student.

You can read the column here – and you will see Noreen listed among the final entries.

And you can go directly to Noreen's entry – which shows her journalism class at St. Benedict's Prep – by going here –

Noreen Connolly

Here's an excerpt of what Noreen wrote BUT HIT THE LINK AND WATCH THE VIDEO.

I spend most of my days trying to coax “sparkling prose” from adolescent boys in Newark, N.J. Teaching journalism for the past fifteen years at an independent school that serves mostly minority young men has had me talking in my sleep about show don’t tell, attention-grabbing leads, deadlines, and getting facts right . But I love my job. I am sure it is keeping me young in spirit and even mildly literate in the digital world.

One of the points of sending this around is that Kristof is looking for feeback on which finalist contestant to pick for the student trip.  So either leave a comment by going to the the  posting at the top (or here) or on Kristof's facebook page -  "me what you think on my Facebook page »"

Noreen Connolly knows how to reach other people, especially her students. She has the desire to build upon her existing skills and let her actions provide further encouragement to her students. I believe that this trip will provide dividends to her and all associated with her.

  2. Tom. thats great but, youve got to post it on Kristofs article as a
comment, or on his facebook. Both links are in my posting.
