Last Friday and Saturday, as previously mentioned here Off on a 24 hour adventure & Back from my 25 hour solo Appalachian Trail overnighter .
I made three short videos, as well as took a bunch of photos. Here’s the longest vid – only about a minute and a half.
Note I called the shelter the “Morgan Stanley” shelter, when it’s really the Morgan Stewart Shelter, and also gave the wrong date (slips of the tongue!).
I also did two other short videos – both under a minute – from Mt. Egbert and Mt. Hosner and you can find them here –

Here are some photos from the first day – Friday – with Brigid and Tim dropping me off at the intersection of Rte. 55 and the A.T. at 2 o’clock.

Tim with the drive-by shout …

Ahhh, hunting season. These signs were posted wherever you could access the Trail. The no hunting zone around the Trail I think is a couple of hundred yards on either side of the Trail …

The Trail covered with leaves for the entire 12 miles I was on it.
I’m pretty sure this is a squirrel’s nest, not a birds nest. It’s the only nest I saw the whole time I was out.

Typical parts of this section of the A.T. The white blazes mark the Trail.

So now it’s 3:50, and I reach the Morgan Stewart Shelter. It’s 3.3 miles from where I got on the Trail from Rte. 55.

Here’s my stuff laid out in the shelter – this picture taken with flash.

What the shelter looked like at five o’clock without flash. The little light is my spare flashlight, on “lantern” mode. Spooky!

So ends my first day. The temperature got down to about 27 degrees according to my little thermometer, and it was WINDY, but I was quite warm in my sleepnig bag and bivvy sack.
Will do another posting with some pictures of the next day’s walk.
