With Signature Pitch, Rivera Stays a Cut Above – washingtonpost.com

Rivera altered his career by chance, accidentally developing a cutter during a game of catch. While throwing with teammate Ramiro Mendoza, Rivera said he first threw the cutter that would make him famous. It had velocity and violent movement. Unbeknownst to Rivera, a legend was born.

Rivera throws the cutter, the two seam fastball, and the four seam fastball (It was only this year that I found out the difference between a two seamer and a four seamer – thanks to Tim's participation in a Pace College pitching clinic).
